Workshop / Teaching Rooms
CDT combine sessions in the lecture theatre with smaller sessions in our teaching rooms. The teaching rooms suit the exercises being undertaken. Flight planning using charts / OS maps etc. take up a lot of room, CDT believe students should not be crammed into a hotel conference room like cattle during their educational activities as our competitors do.
Situated at the heart of the Edwardian Quadrangle, the Bistro is where students are fed 3 times per day during the course. The traditional wood panelled room, furnished with a mixture of dining tables and sofas, often features the work of local artists. Daily newspapers are on hand if you fancy kicking back for a while, though not too long, you have drone exams to pass!!!!. During the summer months, the terrace is open for al fresco dining.
We can email you the latest menu if required.
Flight Training / Range Testing Fields
We have space coming out of our ears, including a 1000m long enclosed field perfect for range testing you control & video transmission equipment.
Drones to help you decide on Future Purchases
CDT have the following multi-rotor drones available for students to have a go on. We believe any decent flight should give students the opportunity to test out platforms to see what suits them and fits with their proposed operation.
- DJI F450 with fixed gimbal & GoPro camera.
- DJI F550 with zenmuse h3-3d gimbal & GoPro camera
- DJI Inspire 1
- DJI Phantom 3 Professional
- DJI S900 with Zenmuse Gimbal & Panasonic GH4
- Quanum Spyder (octocopter) with infra red & thermal imaging cameras.
- Waterproof aluminium framed quadcopter with T-motor high lift U7 motors demostrating all weather security patrols.
Students must communicate their intention to test drones at time of booking giving the course administrators chance to organise the sessions.

Health & Wellbeing Centre
The Health & Wellbeing Centre is home to one of the region’s only hydrotherapy pools open to members of the public. The heated pool is open to people of all ages and abilities, allowing everyone to enjoy the benefits of exercise in warm water. It is safe for non-swimmers and a great way to relieve pain, improve mobility or just relax before a written test or flight examination.
The benefits of using the hydrotherapy pool can include: natural pain relief, improved circulation, freedom of movement, stress relief (flight exams) and improved mobility. The pool is 12m by 6m and kept at a temperature of 34.5C. The pool and changing rooms are fully accessible to disabled people, with overhead and chair poolside hoists available upon request. We also have an accessible sauna.
The facility is open every day from 9am-7pm (and until 5pm on Sunday) with a range of classes and sessions to suit everyone (please see below). On your first visit we will take you through an induction process and run through our health and safety procedures to ensure that you enjoy your visit safely.
Students can book badminton and squash courts at the sports hall, and indoor basketball, football, cricket, bowls or hockey. The Sports hall has changing room and showering facilities and some equipment is also available. CDT do organise a 5-a-side game during the course or a kick about if there are enough students up for it. Students who bring their own drone racing equipment are welcome to use the hall with prior notice given to CDT.
